It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted, and I am keenly aware that we are fast heading toward July.
It's been busy, busy, busy again for us over the past couple of weeks, but I'll try to hit the highlights!
We once again had a fun time at my works' family picnic. Gord had a working day set up at the skeet shooting club, so I took Erin and her pal Erika to the picnic. The girls had a good time running through the bouncers, getting their faces painted, listening to music, and eating cotton candy! The weather kept threatening to storm on us, but luckily the rain held off until just before the end of the picnic and those who came out had a good time.
The day following brought Father's Day. A belated Happy Father's Day to all the great dads I know out there - including Erin's and mine!! It was a quiet Father's Day for our house - just some swimming and a bbq for dear dad!
The day after Father's Day, was North Bay Grampa's birthday! We hope he had a good day and hope he comes down to see us soon!!
Erin made a decision on Father's Day - she was going to learn how to confidently swim without her life jacket. Richinda will get a chuckle out of this - Erin's inspiration was Emma! At a recent talent show, Emma and a couple of friends sang the song 'Big Girls Don't Cry' by Fergie. Erin sang it to the version of 'Big Girls Never Give Up' that day, and the next thing we knew it, she was jumping into the deep end, swimming the length of the pool, doing summersaults, and having a great time! At the end of the day she said that Emma would be so proud of her when she saw her swim next... so Emma, when you are over next for a swim, Erin can't wait to show you her new swimming moves!!!
The end of the week brought a library day for Erin and I. The library has moved into it's new location, and it is beautiful!!! I'm so looking forward to our Fridays together again this summer! Erin has even been letting me read lately, so I have been able to read 3 books over the last 2 weeks - amazing!!!!
Monday the 23rd was Erin's last day of JK.... she was pretty proud when I picked her up from school that afternoon. She proudly announced: "Mummy, I am now a Senior" and proceeded to say goodbye to her teacher and started marching, head held high, to the car! So she's at the Nursery School for the summer, which she loves, as she gets to hang out with both her school and daycare buddies all summer!!!
So this brings us up to this weekend. The rain has been exhausting over the past week. I think we are getting spring weather now. Yesterday we did some running around because none of us felt like sitting around the house during the rain. We stopped at an outdoor store and Erin got a fishing rod (hence the title of this post!!). I'll get to that in a minute. We also stopped at the furniture store where we have been eying up the couch we want to get from the basement. You have to love when a plan comes together! It was on sale, so we decided to buy it! It should be delivered in the next couple of weeks, so that's exciting! It's a dark red colour and is semi-circular, with two big ottomans. It will be awesome!! Erin approved and had a ball running around the store trying out chairs and sofas while I settled the bill!!
Later in the day, Erin began practicing with her new fishing rod - it's pink (of course) and from a company called 'Fishergirl'. She finally talked Gord into taking her fishing! So after dinner, we headed to the locks at Kilmarnock and cast out (I watched). We all managed to avoid injury from fish hooks as Erin cast off!!!!! She was the only one to catch not one, but two fish!! Can you say excited???!!!! She even held the fish!!! I think she expects to go fishing again today!!! Check out the pics!!
Tuesday is Canada Day. Gord and I were both hoping to be off on Monday, but neither of us are able. The daycare is closed, so I'm hoping Emily can come out for the day. With any luck the rain will hold off and we can enjoy the Canada Day parade in town on Tuesday. Wednesday, Erin is taking her first riding lesson from a friend of mine who teaches little ones, so she is very excited about that! She has been pining to ride her Charlie, so starting weekly lessons will be fun for her. She is even hoping to enter the pony show at the fair in August with Charlie (yup Anestasia... we'll be hitting you up for trailering!!).
Next weekend we are having Jo, Chris and the boys out for a Canada Day bbq - and hopefully a few others!! The kids can swim and the adults can catch up!
Well, Erin is summoning me, so I better run.

WTG Erin! I've never been fishing before in my life so I can understand how exciting it must be to catch your first (two) fish.
