March Break moves on

Normally around this time of year I would be posting pictures of us enjoying a beautiful beach getaway, but alas, it was not meant to be this March Break. The nice thing about it though is that this March we were not buried under mountains of snow like we were last year. In fact, we hit some pretty nice temperatures for March, so all in all, not too much to complain about!

March Break started with a sleep over for Erin at Aunt Elaine's. She had a great time - judging by how tired (and CRABBY) she was when she got home on Monday afternoon! The did some swimming, fed the squirrels, ate junk food, watched some videos while munching on popcorn, and went to see the movie 'Hotel for Dogs'! Sounds like a great sleepover and a good explanation for the exhaustion (and CRABBINESS!). Tuesday Erin went to daycare and enjoyed a fun day of making mud cakes outside - I swear I must wash her coat daily at this time of year! Wednesday Erin and I met our new doctor (yeah..... we got into the health centre in town - much more convenient) then picked up Emily for a day of shopping. I took the girls out for lunch at Baton Rouge in Kanata - I cannot believe how much Erin ate! We then walked around Bayshore for a bit and had a great day! Thursday was Beach day at daycare. When we went in, the Beach Boys were blaring and the kids had hot dogs and chips for lunch, so what could be better?!!! Friday Erin went to daycare again and it was pajama day. They got to watch the movie 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua' so Erin was happy!

Saturday we decided to head to the maple sugar bush nearby and have pancake breakfast.....mmmmmm....pancake breakfast! It was delicious! It was also very busy, but well worth the wait. We also had Aunt Rita, Uncle Andrew, and Emily over for dinner. We bbq'd some steaks and had some good conversation. Today is lazy day. We are doing nothing. I'm exhausted and have a mountain of laundry to do and Erin is happily playing with barbies and playing school. I think it's nice to have a down day before school starts up again.

So yes, it's back to school tomorrow. It's hard to believe we are only 1 1/2 weeks until April! Spring is here and before we know it, it will be summer!

Not much is up for the week. Monday we are selling Girl Guide cookies - yup, everyone who reads this, you will be hit up to buy a box!! We are selling the chocolate and vanilla cream filled ones this time around! I think we will try to get a swim or two in this week as well. Friday Gord will be back to Kingston and will hopefully have clearance to begin to put weight on his left heel - keep your fingers crossed everyone!!! Next weekend we will be going to the annual spaghetti dinner in town. I went last year and it was a lot of fun and the pasta was yummy, so I'm expecting it won't be any different this year!

Well, I best head off for now. I'll catch up soon!

March keeps on rolling....

I can hardly believe it myself.... two posts in the same month!!

Our week has been pretty uneventful. No one was sick this week, so that was a bonus!!

We are heading into March break and Erin is kicking it off with a sleepover at Aunt Elaine's! I brought Erin in this morning and we made a stop at Bayshore so she could go to Build-A-Bear. Erin has been saving her money for 3 months and was going to buy a Camp Rock BAB, until the spring flyer arrived with... hold your breath..... a lamb BAB!!! Well, that was it! Erin decided it was time to part with her hard-earned (!!!) allowance money and get herself another lamb! She also had $30 in gift cards and she got a little extra money from mum and dad for a great report card (!!), so she didn't have to part with too much! I'll get a picture of her and her new lamb (and baby lamb!) when she is back home tomorrow! She had a ball though. I think bar none, that is her favourite store!

Erin and I are off on Wednesday and we have asked Emily if she wanted to come shopping with us - which she is! Other than that, Erin will be in daycare on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday having loads of fun with her buddies!

I have been meaning to capture a couple of things that make Erin, well Erin....

Nightmares: A few weeks back, Erin started to go through a bit of a stretch where fears and nightmares were taking over in the evening. She could get herself worked into a tizzy over bears and wolves at night. She also had a couple of nightmares. One in particular stands out for me: One night, Erin came upstairs and climbed into bed with me (Gord was still crashing in the lazy boy) and was really upset, "Mummy, I had a nightmare!" I asked her to tell me about it - "Mummy..... there was a skunk...... and the skunk.......he came up to me..... and the skunk put his tail around me..... and he called me a little stinker!" You have to imagine the little sobs from my 5-year old little bug telling me this disturbing nightmare! It was all I could do not to laugh!!!!

Attitude: I get a few subscription emails about parenting that pop up in the inbox every so often. I noticed a couple around this theme: Your 5-year old's attitude. These articles went on to explain how at this age your precious 5-year old will test the limits of your patience with sassy talk and attitude. Oh my..... the articles could have been written about Erin!!!! Now I'm not suggesting Erin is anything less than a great kid, but I have unfortunately been allowing her to discover every button to push with her attitude!!!! I laugh when I read her report card saying she is a happy and quiet child at school! I wonder if every parent says: 'who is this child they are talking about!!!' Although I admit I'm happy she saves the button pushing for me!!!

Yes, I miss her tonight!!!

March comes in like a Chicken!

Chicken pox that is. Yup, Erin started the month of March with Chicken pox. It appears that I can only get a post up once a month this year (so far!!), as I noticed I only have one up for February! So, let's get caught up.....

Last I checked in it was Valentine's Day. We had a really good weekend! Aunt Elaine came to spend the weekend with us and we joined the rest of the family for dinner at the Goose. Hats off to the Goose for putting on a great spread!

I honestly can't remember anything about the week following Valentine's Day, so I will assume it was business as usual!!

The following Friday, Erin got to go over to Erika's for a sleepover! I guess they had a grand time - judging by how tired and cranky Erin was the next day!!!

February 22nd brought a fun day of activities with the Sparks and other area Guiding groups in Burritt's Rapids. Erin came home with new songs, a mason jar candle holder, and best of all.... a new badge! She positively loves those badges and they are kept in a safe place in her room, only to be brought out to show periodically at show and tell at school! That afternoon I took a quick nip into Kanata and had a cherished coffee with Jo! OMG we don't do that enough!!

The next day the illness bug caught me. I was off work and feeling downright awful for a couple of days.

Then March came and so did the chicken pox! Luckily Erin only got a mild case and was back to daycare this past Thursday, which was just in time as we were all driving each other crazy!! We are just hoping that Gord doesn't get them. Just what he needs, chicken pox on top of the heel!

Speaking of Gord and his heel... we were back in Kingston on February 26th to meet with his surgeon again, get more xrays, etc. His surgeon is happy with his progress and said hopefully if all continues to go well, he will give Gord clearance to start putting weight on the heel at the end of March or early April. It's been a long haul, but Gord is doing everything to maximize the mobility capability in his foot.

So fast forward to this weekend... Erin and her Sparks group, another Sparks group and Brownie groups headed in to the Museum of Science and Technology for a sleepover! What fun! They got to go up by bus on Saturday afternoon and were back home this morning. Erin was really excited but did get a bit teary just before they left. I think it was more related to the fact we were both there saying goodbye. We didn't get any phone calls through the night, so all seemed to go well! Boy, was she exhausted when she came off the bus this morning! She thinks they went to bed pretty late, and of course with the time change, they lost an hour of sleep! I imagine she will sleep well tonight though. She told us how much fun they had last night and it is likely to catch up with her! She told me this trip has made her even more excited for the two night camp in June! All I can say is that her Sparks leaders are saints!!!

The week ahead looks pretty standard for us. We head into March break at the end of the week, and Erin will be going in to have a sleepover with Aunt Elaine next Sunday. Whew, it's hard to keep up with this girl!! I can't even imagine having more than one!! I am going to take one day off to spend with Erin. I'm not sure what we'll do, but we'll find something fun to do I'm sure.

Here's hoping for a great March to everyone! Enjoy the pics!!
